Woke up. Tired. Achy (sp?). Hands hurting. Surgeried shoulder hurting. Oof.
And it was raining.
Do I REALLY wanna go to the pool and swim, I wondered? Maybe my body is telling me to take it easy. Maybe my hands need a break from stroking and they’ll feel better with some time off. Maybe an off-day of rest will be just what the doctor ordered.
Those were my thoughts. And what was my counter-thought? “This is just weak-ass, lazy talk. Just get to the pool, jump in, and if you’re too tired, just swim slowly for a bit.”
I listened to my inner drill sergeant. Got my sorry self down there. Jumped in. And … shoulder felt good. Hands felt good. It all felt good. Forty minutes later, out of the pool feeling refreshed and ready to tackle the rest of the day.
The moral of the story – when in doubt, just do it.
